Your visit

Expert vision care

North West Eye Surgeons prides itself on providing a patient-centred service that is accessible, community-based and technologically advanced.

Before your Appointment

Patients must provide a referral letter from their general practitioner, optometrist, or specialist in order to schedule an appointment with one of our specialists. Please ensure your referral is current and has been received at NWES prior to your appointment.  The referral letter should be addressed directly to the specialist that you will be seeing.

Your visit

On arrival, you will be greeted by one of our friendly medical administration staff, who will ensure we have all your details, including Medicare, DVA and concession entitlements. An Ophthalmic Technician will do some preliminary tests on your eyes in preparation for the specialist.

Your doctor will examine you and/or may order drops and other diagnostic tests and treatments based on your referral. (We perform most tests, treatments and procedures on-site).

Be aware that eye drops may be administered to dilate the pupils to enable a thorough eye examination. We strongly recommend bringing a driver with you or allowing 40 minutes extra for the drops’ effects to wear off.  It can take up to three hours for the eyes to return to normal.

Every effort will be made to ensure you are not kept waiting before your procedure, however there are times when other patients require longer than we anticipate.  There may be occasions when it is necessary to keep you waiting before your procedure. This is due to the nature of the cases or if we are dealing with a particularly difficult or complex case.

Please provide at least 24 hours notice for cancellation or changes to appointments.

As a private practice, please note that we require payment for consultations, diagnostic tests, and treatment performed during consultations.

If you have a Medicare card, you can claim a rebate from Medicare for your consultation and most tests and treatments. To be eligible for a rebate, Medicare card holders must have a current referral from your optometrist or general practitioner.

A discount is given if you hold a current Pensioner Health Benefits card. Bulk Billing is not routinely offered to patients. DVA Gold Card entitlement holders are fully covered.

If you are uncertain of the costs and rebates for your consultation, treatment, test or procedure, please contact us for an indication.

We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express and EFTPOS, as well as bank cheques and money orders. Personal cheques will not be accepted.
